The University of Karachi (KU) has announced plans to launch a four-year Bachelor’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) under the Department of Computer Science.
The proposal for the AI program has been included in the agenda for approval during the upcoming Academic Council meeting, scheduled for December 3, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi.
Both the Board of Faculty (Faculty of Science) and the Board of Studies in the Department of Computer Science have endorsed the program. If the Academic Council approves, admissions will open for the next academic session.
Admission rules and the number of seats are yet to be finalized. Speaking with The Express Tribune, Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi stated, “Our goal is to provide quality education in cutting-edge fields. This program has undergone thorough evaluation by the Board of Faculty before being forwarded for Academic Council approval.”
Chairman of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Sadiq Ali Khan, shared that the AI curriculum was developed in alignment with the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) guidelines.
To support this initiative, two state-of-the-art interactive smart classrooms are nearing completion in the department. These classrooms are designed to enhance teaching and facilitate technical workshops.
The Department of Computer Science at KU currently offers four-year BS programs in Software Engineering and Computer Science.
