The Punjab Information Ministry and the Ravi Development and Dwelling Authority (RDDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate land transfer for 3,200 housing plots for journalists in Lahore. This initiative is a significant step toward fulfilling the Punjab government’s promise to support journalists.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari credited Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for making substantial progress on this commitment. The MoU was signed by Secretary Information Tahirza Hamdani and RDDA CEO Imran Amin, with key figures such as Punjab spokesperson Azma Bokhari, Lahore Press Club (LPC) President Arshad Ansari, Saleem Sagar, and Colonel (Retired) Abid Mahmood present at the ceremony.
Transparent Allocation Process
Azma Bokhari emphasized that the allocation of plots will be conducted with full transparency. Forms will be available at the Lahore Press Club for council members and through the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) for non-council members. Eligibility will be determined solely based on merit certificates, with no influence from recommendations.
Journalist Housing Scheme Phase-II
Bokhari announced that Phase II of the Journalist Housing Scheme is nearing completion, marking further progress in providing housing for journalists.
Resolution of LPC Society F-Block Issue
In addition, the longstanding issue related to F-Block in the LPC housing society has been resolved under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, ensuring a smoother implementation of the scheme.
This marks the first time in Punjab’s history that a housing initiative of such scale is being executed specifically for journalists, reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting the media community.
