Internet services in Pakistan have seen some improvement in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi today but the situation still remains challenging in many parts of the country, including Lahore, where internet speeds continue to be sluggish.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to provide an explanation for the persistent issues and continues to leave millions of users in the dark about the issue. It appears to have literally no idea why the issue still persists.
Students and freelancers are among the most affected as they struggle to meet their academic deadlines and work commitments.
Meta platforms Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp remain particularly slow in various cities. Users have reported difficulties in uploading and downloading photos, videos, and voice notes.
It bears mentioning that virtual private networks (VPNs) are also not working normally. Many have pointed out PTA’s unhealthy use of its new firewall as the main reason behind internet disruptions. The regulator has not yet confirmed the disruption or provided clarity on the situation.
Last week, internet services were blocked for 3 days by the government to curtail peaceful protests. The protest ended late Tuesday night but issues still remain a week later.
