Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the distribution of free medicines to several districts during her visit to the Central Medicine Warehouse in Maraka, one of the largest facilities of its kind in the country.
The chief minister directed the swift operationalization of medicine warehouses in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan to enhance healthcare delivery across the province.
During her visit, CM Maryam oversaw the loading and dispatch of trucks carrying medicines to various districts. She inspected furniture, medical equipment, and other supplies designated for hospitals. Additionally, she verified the quality and expiry dates of the medicines and reviewed the temperature regulation systems at the warehouse.
Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan briefed the chief minister on the warehouse’s capabilities, highlighting its compliance with standard temperature requirements and efficient transportation systems for medicine distribution.
Free Medicines Project
According to an official statement, nine central warehouses have been established under the free medicines initiative. These facilities store medicines worth over Rs. 10 billion. Modern medical equipment valued at Rs. 7 billion, along with furniture, disposable bed sheets, and other hospital supplies, will also be distributed from these warehouses.
District hospitals across Punjab will receive standardized furniture, advanced medical equipment, medicine trolleys, and other essential items as part of the project.
Establishment of PERA
In a separate development, the maiden meeting of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, approved the establishment of offices, appointments, and the formulation of rules and regulations for the authority.
The chief minister emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency, merit-based appointments, and the creation of an effective monitoring system to uphold governance standards.
