Honda has announced a recall of over 200,000 SUVs due to a defect in the fuel-filling system that poses a fire risk. The recall impacts specific models of the 2023 and 2024 Honda Passport, as well as 2023 to 2025 Honda Pilot SUVs.
The company identified that certain components of the fuel filling system were improperly installed during manufacturing. In the event of a crash, these parts could separate, potentially causing fuel leakage from the tank and increasing the risk of a fire.
The issue first came to light in May 2024, when a Honda dealer submitted a warranty claim. Following additional investigations, Honda discovered similar defects in vehicles stored in its warehouses. This prompted the company to initiate a formal recall.
Honda will begin notifying affected vehicle owners by mail starting in early January 2025. Customers are advised to visit authorized Honda dealerships, where repairs to the fuel system will be carried out at no cost to the owners.
