A senior diplomat from Bangladesh has filed a complaint with Islamabad’s Kohsar Police Station, citing harassment and intimidation by unidentified individuals.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with criminal intimidation. The diplomat claimed he was being followed, his movements monitored, and his photographs taken without permission.
Additionally, a threatening letter was recently delivered to the Bangladeshi Embassy, alarming the diplomatic staff. Police have begun investigating to identify and apprehend those involved.
This development coincides with efforts to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Since the departure of former pro-Indian Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, has introduced measures to enhance bilateral ties.
On December 5, Bangladesh eased visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals, eliminating the requirement for security clearance. The Security Services Division of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed officials to streamline the visa process, aiming to promote easier travel and closer ties between the two nations.
