PTA Allows Freelancers to Register VPNs With Phone Numbers

To facilitate the legitimate, secure, and uninterrupted operations of virtual private networks (VPNs) by freelancers who don’t have static IP addresses, the facility to register a VPN against a Mobile number has been introduced by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Freelancers can register their mobile phone numbers with PTA to use VPNs on mobile data connections here.

The step is aimed to further simplify the VPN registration process for the facilitation of the IT industry. So far over 31,000 VPNs have been registered by PTA.

Last month PTA streamlined the VPN registration process for organizations and freelancers for the first time. This allowed entities like software houses, call centers, banks, embassies, and freelancers to easily register their VPNs online through the PTA’s official website.

Freelancers are also required to provide proof of their project or company affiliation and an IP address for connectivity. For those using a fixed IP address, this can be obtained through their internet service provider.
