Valve’s Steam platform has once again broken its own record. Over the weekend, a peak of 39.2 million concurrent users were recorded, with over 12 million actively playing games.
These record-breaking numbers are often driven by the release of major games. This past weekend, the launches of Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile 2 and NetEase’s Marvel Rivals contributed to the surge in users.
Path of Exile 2, which launched in early access last Friday, has been a huge success. The game has already surpassed one million players and peaked at 578,000 concurrent players on Steam. Despite being a paid early-access title, the game has received positive reviews from players.
Marvel Rivals also had a strong launch, peaking at 480,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game’s biggest success has been on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, where it has attracted over 10 million players in its first three days. This game’s free-to-play status contributed to its impressive performance.
Valve’s Steam platform continues to see impressive growth thanks to these big releases. At the start of the year in January, it reached 33.6 million concurrent users. This number has steadily increased, surpassing 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38 million users in subsequent months.
In recent news, Steam heavily discounted major games during its Autumn sale which ended on December 4. Popular titles such as God of War, Helldivers 2, Forza Series, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many others were offered for cheap rates during this time, many of which are still available at a discount on Steam.
