The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have approved the introduction of direct player signings for the league’s 10th edition, set to take place in 2025. The decision was finalized during a meeting between PSL management and franchise representatives on Sunday, as both parties emphasized the need to ensure the league’s success amidst tight preparation timelines.
The PSL management proposed the idea of direct player signings to expedite the recruitment process and secure top-tier talent for the upcoming season. Franchises unanimously approved the proposal. In fact, several franchises revealed that they had already begun approaching players to secure their services for PSL 10.
Sources revealed that the PSL management is in active communication with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to secure the participation of English players in the tournament.
The PSL management announced that the player draft for Season 10 will take place on January 11, 2025. While the introduction of direct signings will allow franchises to secure players outside the draft system, the draft will remain a key component of team-building for the tournament.
The decision to allow direct signings comes as the PSL faces increasing competition from other T20 leagues around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), and the newly launched Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States. By enabling franchises to directly negotiate with players, the PSL aims to streamline the recruitment process and ensure the participation of top-tier talent.
