Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has addressed the speculation surrounding his retirement from international cricket, clarifying his recent remarks that had sparked rumors about his future in the sport.
The experienced wicket-keeper-batsman, who is currently mentoring the Dolphins in the Champions T20 Cup, assured fans that he remains active in cricket and is open to representing Pakistan if given the opportunity.
During a media session last week, Sarfaraz Ahmed was asked about his career and his response led many to believe that the 36-year-old was hinting at retirement.
The comment quickly gained traction, with fans and analysts speculating that the former skipper was preparing to call time on his illustrious career.
In a recent interview with a local news channel, Sarfaraz clarified his position, explaining that his remarks were misunderstood. He emphasized that he has not made any retirement decision and remains committed to cricket. He stated.
As far as leaving cricket is concerned, that is my personal decision. When I feel that I should quit cricket, I will quit.
He also reiterated his willingness to serve Pakistan in any capacity, saying: “I’ve never demanded, ‘I want to bat here or there.’ If I am given the chance to play for the national team, I will gladly accept it.”
While Sarfaraz Ahmed has clarified that he has no immediate plans to retire, he acknowledged that the decision to step away from cricket will ultimately be a personal one.
Despite not being part of the squad for the ongoing South Africa tour, Sarfaraz made it clear that he is still available for selection and ready to contribute whenever called upon.
