Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan Weighs Hosting Options

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly exploring Sri Lanka as an alternative venue for India’s matches in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, alongside the favored UAE.

This new development has added a fresh twist to the hybrid model which has been reportedly agreed upon by Pakistan and India after months of negotiations.

Key Developments

According to the hybrid model agreement, India will play its Champions Trophy matches at a neutral venue, with Lahore hosting the final if India does not qualify.

The compromise between the two boards also applies to the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan will not to play its World Cup matches in India with Sri Lanka hosting all its games.

The agreement has been finalized between the two boards, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to make the official announcement after formal signatures are completed.

Venue Discussions for the 2025 Champions Trophy

While Dubai remains the ICC’s preferred venue for India’s matches, Sri Lanka has emerged as a surprise contender, potentially offering Pakistan a stronger financial and logistical package.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently held high-level talks in Dubai with Mubashir Usmani, a former Emirates Cricket Board official and current ICC Director, discussing the pros and cons of venue options.

While Sri Lanka’s sudden inclusion has caught ICC off-guard, it is believed that the final decision will come down to securing the best deal for all parties involved.
