The Lahore police have identified 55 hotspots in the city where groups of youngsters perform dangerous stunts like wheelies, especially during Christmas and New Year celebrations. These stunts, often performed at high speeds on modified 125cc bikes, have caused many fatalities and life-long injuries.
Some of the main roads targeted by these speed enthusiasts include Canal Road, Main Boulevard in Gulberg, Jail Road, The Mall, Cavalry Bridge, and key routes in DHA. The stunts involve riding in zigzag patterns, standing on bikes, or letting go of the handle, which puts lives at serious risk.
To address this issue, Lahore Operations DIG Faisal Kamran announced a comprehensive plan involving advanced technology and increased police presence. He said special measures will be in place across all identified hotspots, including four areas in City Division, eight in Civil Lines, five in Cantonment, 16 in Model Town, and six in Iqbal Town Division.
A dedicated deployment of 1,679 officers, including six SPs, 22 SDPOs, and 83 SHOs, will monitor these areas till the end of December. Additional checkpoints, enhanced patrolling, and real-time monitoring through Punjab Safe Cities Authority cameras will help prevent stunts.
Legal action will also be taken against mechanics who modify bikes for these stunts. DIG Kamran warned that facilitators enabling dangerous activities will face strict consequences, including arrests. Repeat offenders will have to provide surety bonds to ensure compliance with safety rules.
The DIG urged parents to monitor their children and stop them from performing stunts. He also encouraged citizens to report such activities or facilitators through the police helpline 15.
In addition to tackling bike stunts, Lahore SP Security Abdul Wahab has planned special security and crowd control measures for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Police personnel will be deployed at churches and other important locations to ensure public safety during the festivities.
