Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has reiterated the board’s commitment to making the 2025 Champions Trophy a memorable event. Naqvi made the comments while presiding over the 76th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday. The primary focus of the session was Pakistan’s preparations to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
Naqvi provided an update on the progress and challenges related to the tournament, assuring the Board that Pakistan remains firmly on track to host the prestigious event. He reiterated PCB’s unwavering commitment to organizing the 2025 Champions Trophy on home soil, earning unanimous support from BoG members.
“I have always stood for Pakistan and cricket’s success since the beginning,” Naqvi stated, emphasizing the PCB’s dedication to ensuring the Champions Trophy becomes a landmark event for the nation. “This is a matter of national honor, and we will not compromise on it.”
Naqvi also highlighted the importance of keeping cricket free from political interference. “Cricket unites millions of fans, and we must preserve its apolitical nature,” he added.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing renovations of cricket stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi under PCB’s guidance for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
In related developments, it is being reported that the ICC has formally approved the PCB’s proposed ‘fusion formula’ for the 2025 Champions Trophy and future events. As per the agreement, India will play its matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the eight-team tournament.
In return, Pakistan will also not travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Instead, their matches, including the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash, will take place in Sri Lanka, the tournament’s co-host.
