The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a school nutrition program to promote the health and proper growth of children.
The initiative, inaugurated by PFA Director General Asim Javed at DPS Model Town, focuses on educating students, teachers, and parents about the significance of nutritious diets and avoiding unhealthy eating habits.
During the event, DG Asim Javed highlighted alarming statistics: over 40% of children face stunting due to malnutrition, 28% suffer from wasting, 30% experience height deficiencies for their age, and 9.5% are overweight.
The program includes free weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings, with reports shared with parents, schools, and the School Education Department.
The pilot phase involves 25 government schools, covering 38,000 students. After two months of providing nutritious meals and conducting health assessments, the program aims to expand across Punjab.
DPS Principal Brig (retd) Khurram Mehmood Rana commended the PFA, citing a critical need for awareness about nutritious food in Pakistan.
