Pakistan is considering a significant move to facilitate travel for cricket fans and officials attending the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy by announcing a more lenient visa policy. The proposed visa policy would ease travel for individuals from across the globe, including India, ensuring that cricket remains a bridge for fostering goodwill and sportsmanship.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, revealed during a media briefing at Pindi Stadium that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is finalising a travel-friendly visa policy in collaboration with the Foreign Office.
“All fans and concerned officials travelling from all parts of the world, including from India, will be welcomed to watch and perform their respective duties,” said Tarar. “A visa policy to facilitate travel is under consideration by Mohsin Naqvi’s Interior Ministry and Foreign Office.”
This innovative visa policy signals Pakistan’s commitment to making the Champions Trophy an inclusive event, welcoming cricket enthusiasts and media personnel regardless of political tensions.
Minister Tarar emphasized Pakistan’s history of extending warm hospitality to Indian fans and travellers during past bilateral cricket series. He highlighted the country’s consistent efforts to keep sports separate from politics.
“Unlike our neighbours, we always welcomed our guests and kept sports and politics separate. Even the former Indian cricketers shower praise on Pakistan’s hospitality. There will be no difference this time around,” he said, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to promoting harmony through cricket.
Looking ahead, Minister Tarar expressed confidence in Pakistan’s chances of defending their Champions Trophy title. The tournament presents an opportunity for Pakistan to solidify its status as a dominant cricketing force while showcasing its organisational capabilities on the global stage.
“We hope to defend the Champions Trophy title and make the country proud,” the minister added, underscoring the significance of the event for both the team and the nation.
