Seven individuals, including three police officers and a medico-legal officer from PIMS, have been charged by Islamabad police for tampering with evidence and altering the blood sample of a rape suspect to provide him undue advantage. The incident was detailed in an FIR filed by the victim.
The victim initially reported the rape on January 11, 2024, at the Margalla police station. The accused secured pre-arrest bail but refused to cooperate with investigators. Two guarantors who vouched for his bail allegedly pressured the victim to drop the charges.
Additionally, the investigating officer (IO) repeatedly urged the victim to compromise with the accused. During the investigation, the accused’s blood sample was collected at PIMS on March 25.
The FIR alleges that a sub-inspector, constable, and one of the guarantors conspired with the medico-legal officer to swap the accused’s blood sample with another. This tampered sample was then sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA).
After the victim raised her concerns with Islamabad’s police chief, new samples were collected and tested, yielding positive results against the accused. An inquiry led by the assistant commissioner of the Industrial Area confirmed the involvement of the officers, guarantors, and the medico-legal officer in evidence tampering.
