Islamabad to Get Double-Decker Sightseeing Buses for Tourists

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has announced an exciting new project to boost tourism in Islamabad. Aftab ur Rehman Rana, the Managing Director of PTDC, shared details about the initiative during a briefing with key tourism industry stakeholders on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures including Naveed Anjum, Manager of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), Mukhtar Ali, Manager of TICs, and Sadia Nauman, Manager of P&P at PTDC. Representatives from Islamabad’s leading hotels were also present.

The new Islamabad Sightseeing Double-Decker Bus Service is set to launch in January 2025 as a joint venture between PTDC and TDCP. This initiative aims to promote tourism in the capital city by offering visitors a unique way to explore Islamabad’s landmarks and tourist attractions. The bus service will include guided tours operating twice daily, with convenient pick-and-drop services available at major hotels in the city.

During his presentation, Mr. Rana emphasized the government’s strong commitment to developing tourism as a key driver of economic growth. He described the project as a significant step forward, offering tourists a modern and eco-friendly way to experience Islamabad.

In addition to the city tours, the second phase of the program will introduce weekend sightseeing trips to nearby historical and cultural sites. Destinations such as Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Katas Raj, Kallar Kahar, Khewra Salt Mines, Takht-e-Bahi, Murree, Patriata, and Peshawar will be included in these tours. PTDC plans to collaborate with the private sector for this phase to expand the scope of tourism in the region.

Mr. Rana highlighted that this project is part of an integrated tourism plan developed by PTDC to promote Islamabad as a premier gateway for travelers exploring Pakistan. He expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly enhance the city’s appeal to both domestic and international tourists.
