PSB Reports Poor Compliance with Financial Directives

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) revealed on Friday that only nine out of 43 National Sports Federations (NSFs) complied with the directive to submit bank statements and audit reports for the financial year 2023-24.

Limited Compliance with Financial Accountability

The PSB had mandated all federations to submit one-year bank statements and audit reports to promote financial oversight. However, only the National Rifle Association of Pakistan, Pakistan Polo Association, Pakistan Wrestling Federation, Chess Federation of Pakistan, Pakistan Judo Federation, Pakistan Netball Federation, and Pakistan Taekwondo Federation met the requirements.

The majority of federations failed to comply with PSB’s financial directive, raising questions about financial governance within Pakistan’s sports bodies.

New Reforms Introduced Amid Criticism

In a related move, the PSB implemented reforms earlier this week, aiming to increase its control over NSFs. These reforms, detailed through three notifications available on the PSB website, include:

  • Election Regulations: New rules to standardize election processes across federations.
  • Code of Ethics and Governance: Guidelines to ensure ethical practices and improved governance.
  • Model Constitution: A standardized constitution for federations to align with PSB’s objectives.

While the PSB views these measures as essential for accountability, they have sparked a backlash from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and affiliated federations. Critics argue that the reforms infringe upon federation autonomy and violate international sports statutes, potentially inviting global sanctions.
