Karachi police have warned the public against celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve, announcing that those caught firing in the air will face attempted murder charges. The initiative aims to prevent injuries and fatalities caused by stray bullets during the celebrations.
Public awareness campaigns are being carried out through mosque announcements across the city, informing residents about the legal consequences and safety risks associated with aerial firing.
Sindh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed law enforcement to enhance security measures, including increased patrols, road checkpoints, and snap inspections in public areas.
To manage traffic flow, Karachi’s traffic police have released a New Year’s Eve traffic plan. Routes to Seaview via Akhtar Colony and Khayaban-e-Ittehad will be closed, as well as roads from Do Talwar to Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine and nearby areas.
However, alternative access to Seaview will be available through 26th Street. PIDC Chowk’s Club Road will also remain inaccessible. Officials urge the public to abide by the regulations, emphasizing that cooperation is vital for ensuring a safe and incident-free start to the New Year.
