Although the demand for international travel from Pakistan surged in 2024, the number of passports issued fell by 121,418 compared to 2023. However, the year saw a notable rise in applications for e-passports.
According to Passport Director General (DG) Mustafa Jamal Qazi, 6,596,520 passports were issued in 2024, compared to 6,717,938 in the previous year. Revenue generated from passport fees amounted to Rs. 47.64 billion, contributing significantly to the national treasury.
Out of the total, 715,074 passports were issued to overseas Pakistanis, while 5,206,234 were granted to citizens residing in the country. Additionally, 252,141 passports were processed online, and 257,398 e-passports were issued.
The highest number of passport holders were women in 2024, with 9,659,312 issued. Meanwhile, 1,768,341 men and 523 transgender individuals also obtained Pakistani passports.
The data reveals that 3,056,427 new passports were processed, while 2,541,170 renewals were completed during the year. Despite initial delays caused by various factors, the DG confirmed that the process had improved, allowing citizens to receive passports within the designated timeframe.
