UAE Sets 2 New World Records on New Year

Ras Al Khaimah ushered in 2025 with a mesmerizing drone and fireworks show that set two new Guinness World Records.

The Emirate earned titles for the largest aerial display of a tree formed by multi-rotors/drones and the largest aerial image of a seashell formed by multi-rotors/drones. The dazzling event, titled Our Story in the Sky, captivated audiences worldwide, celebrating Ras Al Khaimah’s cultural and natural heritage while redefining New Year celebrations with its innovative and immersive presentation.

The record-breaking spectacle featured 1,400 drones, synchronized fireworks, and lasers, creating breathtaking visuals. The first record was achieved with a complex seashell display featuring 982 elements, while the second showcased an awe-inspiring tree formation using 1,400 drones.

Emma Brain, the official Guinness World Records adjudicator, explained that the verification process required careful adherence to criteria set for each record attempt. This year, the benchmarks were 750 drones for the seashell and 1,200 drones for the tree.

Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, expressed pride in securing two Guinness World Records, calling the display a reflection of the Emirate’s innovative spirit and cultural pride. “As we welcome 2025, we look forward to creating even more unforgettable experiences for our visitors and residents,” he said.

The show spanned five kilometers along Ras Al Khaimah’s waterfront and unfolded in three thematic acts:

  • Shifting Sands depicted the Emirate’s evolving ecosystem and its connection to the land.
  • Mysteries of the Sea celebrated maritime traditions and pearl diving heritage with stunning underwater imagery.
  • Guiding Starlight honored the seafaring history of Ras Al Khaimah with celestial visuals and a dramatic finale of shooting stars and pyrotechnics.

Over 100,000 residents and visitors gathered to enjoy the show from beachfront resorts and the Ras Al Khaimah New Year 2025 Festival. The festival featured free entry and spaces designed to accommodate families and individuals, ensuring an inclusive and memorable celebration.
