In a shocking revelation, four prominent players from the Gujarat Titans from the Indian Premier League (IPL) squad— franchise captain Shubman Gill, Mohit Sharma, Rahul Tewatia, and Sai Sudharsan—have reportedly lost an undisclosed sum of money in a multi-crore chit fund scam.
The Gujarat CID Crime Branch, investigating the INR 450-crore Ponzi scheme, plans to summon these cricketers from Gujarat Titans for questioning to uncover further details, according to a report by Indian media.
The alleged mastermind of the scam, Bhupendrasinh Zala, admitted to failing to return the cricketers’ investments in his BZ scheme. CID officials disclosed that Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans during the last IPL season, had invested INR 1.95 crore in the fraudulent venture. Meanwhile, Mohit Sharma, Rahul Tewatia, and Sai Sudharsan three other members of Gujarat Titans were said to have made smaller contributions.
While the CID has yet to finalize the dates, the players will be summoned to provide clarity on their involvement and losses. Initial reports suggested the scam involved INR 6,000 crore, but further investigations have revised the figure to INR 450 crore.
With ongoing raids and forensic examination of Zala’s financial records, the CID aims to uncover the full scale of the scam. “The current figure of INR 450 crore may increase as we continue our investigations,” stated the senior official.
