Chairman Karachi Board Removed Due to Exam Results Controversy

The Chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Ameer Qadri has been dismissed following a controversy over intermediate examination results. According to an official notification, the decision was made with the approval of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also oversees the relevant portfolio.

Sharf Ali, the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), has been given the additional charge of BIEK until further notice. Meanwhile, Ameer Qadri has been asked to explain his unauthorized foreign trip.

The controversy stems from widespread dissatisfaction among students who appeared for the pre-engineering and pre-medical intermediate examinations. Many students failed in multiple subjects and have since submitted large numbers of scrutiny forms to the board. The affected students expressed frustration, alleging that the results were deliberately manipulated to yield poor outcomes. Students who had previously secured high marks, often above 80 to 85 percent in matriculation, reported receiving less than 50 percent in their intermediate examinations.

Protests have erupted as students claim that their dreams have been shattered by the flawed results. This is not the first time such an issue has arisen. A similar controversy occurred last year, where a significant number of students were declared “fail.” A subsequent investigation by a three-member committee revealed serious irregularities in the results, particularly in subjects like English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

The committee’s findings implicated eight officers of the Karachi Intermediate Board in tampering with the results. Former chairmen Dr. Saeedudin and Naseem Memon, along with other officials, were held responsible for the anomalies. The Sindh government had previously instructed the anti-corruption department to file cases against those found guilty.

This recent incident has further intensified scrutiny of the Karachi Intermediate Board’s operations, with students and their families demanding accountability and transparency in the examination process. Ameer Qadri’s removal is seen as a step toward addressing these longstanding issues, though many believe systemic reforms are necessary to restore confidence in the board’s integrity.
