Usman Wazir Applauds Upcoming World Boxing Championship in Pakistan

Renowned Pakistani boxer and World Youth Champion Usman Wazir has lauded the first-ever World Boxing Championship scheduled to take place in Pakistan on January 25.

Calling it a landmark initiative for promoting the sport, Wazir emphasized its potential to elevate boxing’s profile in the country and inspire the next generation.

The championship will feature boxers from five countries, including Indonesia, Iran, Thailand, and France, competing in ten bouts for the prestigious title. The event will be held in Lahore, a city that has previously hosted several major sporting events but is now stepping into the global boxing arena.

Wazir appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan to lend their support and sponsor the championship, stressing that such initiatives are crucial for the growth of sports beyond cricket.

He remarked, “Unlike cricket, other sports often receive less attention. Events like this not only uplift boxing but also promote Pakistan’s image on the international stage.”

One of Pakistan’s brightest boxing prospects, Khushal Khan, will compete in the event, facing an Indonesian opponent. Khan, who remains undefeated after 14 fights, credits Usman Wazir for inspiring him to pursue boxing. “Usman Wazir’s journey motivated me to take up this sport, and I am determined to win the championship to bring glory to Pakistan,” said the young boxer.

Wazir expressed his ambition to expand boxing’s reach within Pakistan. While acknowledging Lahore’s importance as the host for this championship, he voiced his commitment to organizing future mega-events in Islamabad. “I want to promote the country internationally through boxing. Hosting such events is key to achieving that vision,” he shared.

Both Wazir and Khan highlighted how boxing is gradually gaining popularity among Pakistani youth. Wazir noted that many young individuals are now joining the sport, inspired by the success stories of local boxers.
