Has Starlink Recently Registered in Pakistan?

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has confirmed on Monday that Starlink, the satellite-based internet service owned by Elon Musk, has registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

The announcement has sparked widespread excitement, particularly after Musk himself stated two days earlier that he was awaiting Islamabad’s approval to launch Starlink in Pakistan. Musk’s statement was in response to messages from a Pakistani social media activist on platform X (formerly Twitter).

While this news has generated significant buzz, it is important to approach the announcement with caution. A similar claim had already been made in March 2023 when Ryan Goodnight, Director of Global Licensing and Market Activation at SpaceX, met with Syed Aminul Haq, the then Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication.

Following the meeting, Syed Aminul Haq confirmed that Starlink had already registered with the SECP. At that time, Goodnight praised Pakistan’s progress in the IT and telecommunications sector, stating that “basic steps are complete, and now we are ready to go fast.”

The recent statement from Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja suggests continuity in Starlink’s registration status rather than a fresh development. It appears the company had already been registered in Pakistan in 2023, though the service rollout is still pending government approval.

As Starlink’s potential launch remains a topic of interest, the public is advised to temper their expectations until more concrete steps, such as formal government approvals and service launch timelines, are announced. The registration itself is a procedural step and does not automatically indicate immediate service availability.

For now, all eyes remain on Islamabad and SpaceX as they navigate the final hurdles for Starlink’s much-anticipated debut in Pakistan.

  • Starlink barely works in 🇺🇸. It has limited connectivity and results . Ofcourse musk wants to phase out internet with his own.
He has a history of creating misinformation

    1. He bans and suspends anyone twitter account who criticise him .

    2. After trump election, all he does is place himself as decision maker of world politics.

    3. He openly supported netanyahu. He openly supports tommy Robinson who Hates pakistan and is currently jailed.

    4. He openly supports taking over the current govt of numerous nations with extremely questionable individuals

    5. He still hasn’t delivered on a single promise he made .

  • Depends on what you want

If you want fast internet that a number of people can use … use fiber optic internet

If you want slow and just internet to surf invent and not do anything else at all… I mean at all …. use starlink

    • Some of us think that in Pakistan there are few cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and few more.
There are millions of people living in South Punjab, KPK, Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan as well where more than 90% of the people who do not have access to fiber optic connections and mobile data services are pathetic.
People should be given a chance to get better connectivity at least who can afford services like Starlink.

      • And how many of those millions living in low-income areas will be able to afford a 30,000/month internet subscription, not including the 120,000+ installation cost? A few thousands at maximum? Most of them will continue to be from major cities.
You live up to your name of being a dehshat gard since theyre mostly illiterate.

        • Even though if few thousand people gets better connectivity why it is bothering you. What do not you think in view of broader aspects of this connectivity. It will force our telecom service providers to provide better connectivity to rest of millions of people of Pakistan.
It’s not me who has named myself as Digital Dehshat Gard, if I explain here my comments along with yours can’t be published.

          • Easy . You didn’t prove anyone wrong . But also ignored the fact that it’s expensive . Lol

Starlink is an expensive junk by a racist pro israel stooge . And the fact that you are ok with that is even funnier

            Another strawman

  • Why we Pakistani s get excited on every news
The registration with SECP doesn’t mean Starlink operations in Pakistan
We all know that in recent past the slowing down of Interest and even installation of Firewalls
Where as the Operation of Starlink means bypassing all those installation and restrictions
