The iconic trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Neymar, famously known as “MSN,” could potentially reunite, reigniting one of the most dominant frontlines in football history as hinted by the Brazilian. From 2014 to 2017, the trio led FC Barcelona to an era of unparalleled success, scoring a staggering 364 goals and providing 173 assists, including a historic treble in their first season together.
However, Neymar’s record-breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 marked the end of the MSN era. Messi and Suárez stayed at Barcelona until 2020 before parting ways. In 2024, the duo reunited at Inter Miami, while Neymar currently plays for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking after winning the Player Career Award at the Globe Soccer Awards, Neymar reflected on the possibility of rekindling the legendary partnership:
“Playing again with Messi and Suárez would be incredible,” he said. “They are my friends, and we still speak. It would be interesting to revive this trio. I’m happy at Al Hilal, but football is full of surprises.”
Neymar’s Journey and Current Challenges
After leaving PSG in 2023, Neymar chose to join Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, citing a compelling project for himself and his family. Despite a series of injuries, including a torn ACL and meniscus in 2023 and a hamstring issue in 2024, Neymar has returned to action, eager to make an impact for both club and country.
The Brazilian’s contract with the Saudi giants runs until 2025, opening for a reunion with his mates later this year.
Eyeing the 2026 World Cup
Neymar, now 32, has his sights set on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which he sees as his “last shot” at the sport’s biggest prize. Despite Brazil’s struggles in qualifying, sitting fifth in the South American standings, Neymar remains optimistic.
“I have faith in the team and the young players. We have a year and a half to work and do the right things to reach the World Cup,” he said.
Reflecting on a Stellar Career
As questions linger over whether Neymar has fully lived up to his potential, the forward remains proud of his achievements.
“Over the years, I’ve experienced a lot of difficulties, but I’ve managed to overcome all of them,” he said. “I’ve achieved much more than I could’ve hoped for. Obviously, you think about what you could’ve done differently, but it’s all part of football. I’m very happy with everything I’ve done to date.”
With club ambitions at Al Hilal, a potential MSN reunion, and a shot at the World Cup, Neymar still has plenty to play for as he approaches the twilight of his career. Football, as he says, is full of surprises, and fans can only wait to see what the future holds for the Brazilian star.
