Amid a surge in passport applications in Pakistan, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has introduced measures to facilitate citizens, ARY News reported.
To streamline the process, passport delivery counters will now remain operational 24/7 across all cities, ensuring applicants can obtain their passports quickly and efficiently.
According to the Director-General of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, citizens can collect their passports from any of the 227 passport offices nationwide at their convenience. He also confirmed that the long-standing backlog issue, which caused delays in passport issuance, has been fully resolved, eliminating unnecessary waiting times for applicants.
Additionally, two mega National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) centers in Karachi have begun operations to provide enhanced passport services. Located at Siemens Chowrangi and North Nazimabad, each center features five counters: three for processing, one for distribution, and one for approval. These centers are open 24/7, allowing citizens to apply for or renew their passports at any time.
The assigned staff have started work at the counters, with the official inauguration ceremony for both centers scheduled for next week.
During a surprise visit to the production unit, DG Mustafa Jamal Qazi stated that the backlog of pending passports across Pakistan had been cleared. He reviewed the printing and issuance processes, noting that since July 1, a record 3,376,510 passports have been printed. This includes 776,451 passports in the normal category, 1,896,403 in the urgent category, and 703,656 in the fast-track category.
