BCCI Ban Cricketers’ Wives on Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a series of stringent measures following India’s crushing 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia.

The loss not only dashed India’s hopes of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final but also raised serious questions about the team’s preparation, discipline, and management. In response, the BCCI has taken decisive steps to address perceived lapses in professionalism and team cohesion.

Families Not Allowed on Tour

One of the most significant changes involves restrictions on the presence of players’ families during overseas tours. According to reports, the BCCI will now allow families, particularly wives, to accompany players for only two weeks during a 45-day tour.

The move comes after criticism over the presence of several cricketers’ spouses during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, including those of senior players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Observers and insiders suggested that the extended presence of families may have distracted players and affected their focus during the high-stakes series. The BCCI’s decision is aimed at ensuring that players remain fully committed to their on-field responsibilities.

No More Private Cars for Players

In another effort to foster unity and discipline, the BCCI has reportedly mandated that all players must travel exclusively via the team bus while on tour. This decision follows instances during the recent series where senior players, including Virat Kohli, were seen traveling separately.

Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and His Manager Under Scrutiny

The BCCI has also tightened its policies regarding head coach Gautam Gambhir and his manager, Gaurav Arora. Reports suggest that Gambhir’s manager will no longer be allowed to stay in the team hotel or sit in the VIP box at stadiums during matches. Furthermore, the manager will not be permitted to accompany Gambhir on the team bus or even on a separate bus following the team.

This decision comes amid growing scrutiny of Gambhir’s tenure as head coach, with critics pointing to his inability to arrest India’s slide in Test cricket. Under his leadership, India suffered back-to-back series losses, including a humiliating whitewash at home against New Zealand and the recent 1-3 defeat to Australia.
