Former Pakistan captain and Quetta Gladiators stalwart Sarfaraz Ahmed is reportedly set to take on a new role as the head coach of the franchise for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Australian legend Shane Watson was initially appointed as the Gladiators’ head coach for PSL 10 but he withdrew due to scheduling conflicts and other professional commitments.
Media reports suggest that the appointment of Sarfaraz Ahmed as head coach is all but finalized, with an official announcement from the franchise expected soon. The 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who has been synonymous with the Gladiators since the league’s inception in 2016.
As Gladiators captain, he led Quetta to its maiden and only PSL title in 2019. Over the years, he became the face of the franchise, playing 86 matches and scoring 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, including seven half-centuries.
However, his playing career with the Gladiators came to an end after he was left unpicked in the PSL 10 draft.
PSL 10 Draft Highlights
The PSL 10 draft, held in Lahore on Monday, saw several high-profile international players secure spots with their respective teams. Notable picks included Australia’s David Warner, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Bangladesh’s Litton Das.
While Sarfaraz’s absence from the draft was a notable talking point, the Gladiators made strategic moves to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
