After virtual private networks (VPNs), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) now blames the telecom infrastructure for internet slowdowns across Pakistan.
Official PTA documents seen by ProPakistani revealed that slow internet speeds are caused by deficiencies in telecom infrastructure, power outages, and inadequate fiberization rather than the web management system (WMS).
PTA claims that the web management system, operational for 18 years, focuses on controlling grey traffic and has no role in reducing internet speed.
It says 42 percent of telecom sites across Pakistan operate without generators, leaving more than 21,000 sites vulnerable to power outages. This has significantly affected internet and telecom services during load-shedding. While generators are installed at 24,885 sites, many lack sufficient power backup.
The document further pointed to security concerns, noting that over 739 telecom sites have been targeted by thieves in recent years leading to the theft of generators and other vital equipment. PTA claimed that 147 sites were attacked by terrorists over the last five years, which hurt the telecom infrastructure and eventually internet itself.
In terms of international connectivity, the PTA noted that faults in submarine cables have been resolved in the past. It mentioned the up-and-coming project by Transworld, which is laying a 45,000 KM cable to connect Pakistan with 33 African and Middle Eastern countries. The cable, with an 18-terabyte-per-second capacity, is expected to boost bandwidth and improve internet speed significantly, the document added.
The Ministry of IT and the PTA are collaborating with stakeholders, including telecom operators and social media platforms, to implement solutions and enhance internet services nationwide.

Cable fault, vpn fault, infrastructure fault.will these lies work the way govt have been lying on every single field?.will it stop IT companies from relocating their headquarters?.
Exactly. I don’t know who they think believes them at this point.
I didn’t face any of the issues which are so common now until there was news from the government that they creating a “firewall”, which they later started calling WMS.
Infuriating.
Clearly they subscribe to the law of propaganda: “Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth”, – Nazi Joseph Goebbels.
PTA think everyone is chai. The slowdown is caused by Content filtering aka called web management system. It works by inspecting packets which adds latency and processing overhead, the more they block the slower the internet will get. Bandwidth is not the issue here, processing overhead is. Now PTA wants ISP to pay for the problem they created, and forcing them to upgrade infrastructure that was perfectly adequate for Pakistani needs.
Keeping things slow or stealing is inside job may be supported by outside.
That is why harsh accountability is needed on all segments of public service.
speedy justice is another tool not listening cases but giving relief to offender and awarding punishment to the violator of law may it be a public servent.
weak or non accountability increases crimes and mismangment
