Sindh Forms Committee to Investigate Controversial Inter Exam Results

On Monday, the Sindh Assembly established a committee of lawmakers to investigate the recently controversial results of Karachi students’ Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examinations.

Last week, opposition members from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan protested in the assembly’s new session after being denied the opportunity to address concerns over the unsatisfactory HSSC results.

The newly formed committee will thoroughly examine all matters related to the HSSC exam results, with Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah leading the investigation.

Addressing the issue, Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar assured legislators that the government would not compromise students’ academic future. He also promised that qualified individuals would soon be appointed as chairpersons of Sindh’s public examination boards.

Lanjar stated that the probe committee would consider the grievances of affected students and engage with the administration of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi.

The committee includes MPA Sadia Javed, Shabbir Ahmed, Taha Ahmed, and Abdul Waseem.

Separately, during the question hour, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Sindh Cooperation Department, Khairunnisa Mughal, informed the assembly that the provincial government oversees the registration and timely elections of cooperative housing societies.

She noted that an inquiry officer had been appointed to address complaints of irregularities in cooperative housing societies, with many cases referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment. Mughal assured lawmakers that the government maintains a system of checks and balances to ensure transparency and accountability in these societies.

She highlighted Scheme 33 of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) as a notable example of a successfully functioning cooperative housing society.
