BYD Denza Sports Car Spotted in Spy Shots

Spy shots have revealed BYD’s new Denza sports car. This two-door model, likely based on the Fang Cheng Bao Super 9 concept, has garnered attention for its sleek design and potential to challenge high-performance vehicles like the Porsche 911.

The car is expected to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025, and reports suggest it will be available in both hardtop and convertible versions. While comparisons have been made to the Lotus Emira, the Denza model is rumored to cost significantly less, with prices starting around 300,000 yuan (approximately $40,900). However, some analysts predict a higher price closer to 500,000 yuan (around $68,200).

Design and Features

Denza’s leaked images showcase a streamlined and compact design with minimal overhangs and a long wheelbase, creating an agile and sporty appearance. The front features a sleek grille with multiple air vents, while the sloped windshield and rear canopy form a bubble-like passenger compartment. A ducktail spoiler completes the rear, giving the car an aerodynamic finish.

The vehicle will incorporate modern elements like concealed door handles to reduce drag with conventional side mirrors instead of cameras. Spy shots hint at large wheels and a low-slung stance, emphasizing the car’s sporty persona.

Interior and Performance

The sharply sloped roofline raises doubts about it being a 4-seater. It may remain a two-seater like the original Super 9 concept.

The sports car is expected to feature a three-motor powertrain, similar to BYD’s high-performance models like the Z9 GT with one motor on the front axle and two on the rear wheels.

It is rumored to use the Denza e3 platform, an advanced architecture designed for high-performance EVs.

Pricing

With an anticipated starting price of 300,000 yuan (approximately $40,900), the Denza sports car might compete with vehicles like the MG Cyberster, which is priced at 319,800 yuan ($43,600) in China. However, if priced closer to 500,000 yuan (around $68,200), it would position itself as a flagship model within BYD’s lineup, offering high-end performance at a competitive price.
