MNAs Demand Salary Raise Following Big Increments by Punjab Assembly

Members of the National Assembly have called for an increase in their salaries as they feel their monthly wages are astronomically low compared to provincial lawmakers.

The demand was raised during a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The MNAs urged the implementation of the recommendations for salary increments. They pointed out that members of provincial assemblies currently receive higher salaries and benefits. They particularly mentioned the recent salary hike for Punjab Assembly members as a precedent.

The Speaker sought budgetary details from the Accounts Department of the National Assembly Secretariat. He also assured the members that he would discuss the matter with the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.

If the government agrees, a bill proposing salary increases for the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and National Assembly members will be presented. Currently, MNAs receive a monthly salary and travel allowances totaling Rs. 218,000.
