West Indies Coach Dismisses Concerns About Multan Wickets

West Indies Test head coach Andre Coley has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to tackle any challenge as they prepare for their upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan.

Pakistan’s pitches, known for favoring spin, are expected to play a significant role in the series. Last October, during Pakistan’s 2-1 home series defeat to England, the conditions heavily supported spinners. Pakistan has named Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, and Abrar Ahmed in their 15-member squad.

Despite these challenges, Andre Coley is optimistic about his team’s versatility and balance. Speaking at a pre-series press conference on Wednesday, he highlighted the squad’s preparedness to adapt to varying conditions.

“We have a clear plan in our mind as you look at the makeup of our squad. The squad gives us the option to go either way, so we have that flexibility,” Andre Coley stated. “Whatever surface you’re given, you want to bring a certain level of application that is required.”

The West Indies last toured Pakistan in 2006, making this series a fresh experience for most of the players. Andre Coley acknowledged the unfamiliarity but emphasized the importance of trusting preparation and learning swiftly to seize control early in the contests.

“In a new environment for most of the players, it’s crucial to back themselves, trust the preparation, and keep learning quickly,” Coley said.

The head coach also outlined the team’s approach to gaining and maintaining an advantage: “Our aim here is to prepare in a manner that allows us to negotiate and gain control of the game early, based on the squad Pakistan has selected, and maintain that control throughout the matches.”

The first Test begins tomorrow, and all eyes will be on the West Indies to see if they can execute their plans against a Pakistan side hoping to exploit the home conditions.
