Pakistan recorded a monthly surplus of US$ 582 million in December 2024.
December 2024 was the 3rd consecutive month of surplus due to higher remittances and improved trade balance.
This takes the 1HFY25 current account to a surplus of US$ 1,210 million as compared to a deficit of US$ 1,397 million in 1HFY24.
Earlier current account surplus in 5MFY25 was US$ 944 million, and in 1HFY25 the surplus has reached US$ 1.21 billion, increasing by US$ 266 million vs. December 2024 reported surplus figure of US$ 582 million. This suggests data for previous months is adjusted to the extent of US$ 316 million.
Worker remittances clocked in at $3.079 billion, an increase of 29 percent YoY as compared to the previous year. For 1HFY25, the country’s worker remittances clocked in at $17.84 billion, an increase of nearly 33 percent as compared to SPLY.
The country’s total export of goods amounted to $16.2 billion in 1HFY25. Imports clocked in at $27.7 billion during the period, according to SBP data.
