The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Sunday released a list of 21 Pakistani nationals who survived a tragic maritime incident near Dakhla, Morocco.
The survivors were identified based on verified information provided by authorities.
The incident occurred on January 16 when a boat carrying irregular migrants from Mauritania to Spain capsized.
Fifty migrants, including 44 Pakistanis, lost their lives. While 36 Pakistani nationals were rescued, the remaining are presumed dead, according to the Pakistani Embassy.
The boat, which departed from Mauritania on January 2, had 86 passengers on board, including 66 Pakistanis. Moroccan authorities rescued 36 survivors following the mishap.
This tragedy follows another maritime disaster in December 2024, where over 80 Pakistanis drowned when boats carrying them capsized near Greece.
