BCCI Confirms That India Will Feature ICC Logo on Champions Trophy Jersey

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly confirmed that the Indian cricket team will comply with the jersey guidelines set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the upcoming Champions Trophy. This clarification comes amid speculation regarding India’s jersey design and logo placement for the tournament, set to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025.

According to Faizan Lakhani, the Indian team’s jersey will prominently feature the official Champions Trophy (CT) logo, in line with ICC regulations. The announcement quelled doubts that arose when reports suggested the BCCI might consider an alternative branding strategy in response to ICC’s logo having “Pakistan’s” name in it.

Maintaining ICC’s mandated uniform standards is seen as a step toward diffusing tensions. Traditionally, the host country’s name is part of the tournament badge, but the earlier reports suggesting a potential omission allegedly driven by strained geopolitical relations between the two nations, sparked intense online debate.

The move drew criticism from across the globe, with fans accusing the BCCI of politicizing cricket and undermining established tournament traditions.

This controversy was the latest in a series of tensions between the BCCI and PCB. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 led to the hybrid hosting arrangement, but it has not eased the friction between the two boards. BCCI’s stance on India’s Champions Trophy jersey could have dominated the news cycle again but the ICC’s swift response and BCCI’s admission have eased the off-field hostilities for the time being.
