Former Pakistan cricketer Usman Qadir will add a touch of international flair to the Women’s Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), attending the iconic venue to celebrate one of cricket’s marquee events after an invitation by Cricket Australia. The match, held as part of the riveting Women’s Ashes series, promises a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, fueled by an eclectic mix of fans and personalities.
Cricket Australia has reportedly extended invitations to cricketing luminaries and fan groups from diverse backgrounds to enhance the spectacle. Alongside Usman Qadir, the event will also feature Shashikala Siriwardene, former Sri Lankan women’s captain, and Renegades player Ruwantha Kellopatha. Fan groups, including the Sri Lankan Papare Band, Pakistani Hulk, the English Barmy Army, and a Pakistani group led by Tariq Naveed—known for buying 850 tickets for a Brisbane T20I—ensure a festive and diverse environment.
For the uninitiated, Usman Qadir, son of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, has embarked on a new chapter in his cricketing journey. His association with Cricket Australia goes back years. After representing Pakistan in one ODI and 25 T20Is, where he claimed 32 wickets, Qadir recently transitioned to Australia in pursuit of fresh opportunities.
Currently based in New South Wales, the 31-year-old has been plying his trade with Hawkesbury Club in Sydney. He has also featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers and represented South Australia and the Australia Prime Minister’s XI.
