Will 8 February Be a Public Holiday?

Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture Attaullah Tarar announced Monday that the government will mark February 8 as the ‘Day of Development and Progress’ (Youm-e-Tameer-o-Taraqi).

The government has not yet announced whether February 8 will be declared a public holiday. Currently, there is no official notification regarding a nationwide holiday for the ‘Day of Development and Progress.’ Citizens will need to wait for further updates from government officials.

The day will highlight the administration’s accomplishments as it completes its first year in office.

Speaking to the media after attending the final match of the Media Cricket League, Tarar explained that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif designated February 8 as a day of celebration due to the government’s significant achievements over the past year, including advancements in economic growth.

Tarar emphasized that the government had restored the confidence of international institutions in Pakistan’s economy. He also mentioned that Pakistan hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit for the first time in 27 years, a major milestone.

On this occasion, awards will be presented to individuals who have made notable contributions to the country’s development.
