Punjab Offers Cash Rewards For Reporting Tax Evaders

The Punjab Excise Department has launched a new whistleblower program aimed at tackling tax evasion, offering a 20% reward from the fines collected to those who report such violations.

The initiative, titled “Expose Tax Evasion, Earn Rewards,” was recently approved by the Punjab provincial cabinet and applies to both excise employees and ordinary citizens.

Under the scheme, whistleblowers will receive 20% of the penalty imposed on tax evaders, while offenders will face a fine equal to the amount of tax they avoided.

To ensure the safety and privacy of informants, the identities of those reporting will remain confidential.

According to reports, amendments to the relevant regulations are being finalized, with the program expected to be implemented by the end of the current fiscal year.

The initiative, proposed by the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department, aims to strengthen tax compliance while incentivizing public engagement through financial benefits.
