Electric Vehicle Taxi Service to Launch Next Month in Sindh

The Sindh government is accelerating its efforts to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service.

A meeting chaired by Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon was held at the Sindh Secretariat on Wednesday, with Energy Minister Nasir Shah and Planning & Development Minister, along with other officials, in attendance.

During the meeting, officials discussed the operational details, benefits, and affordability of the new service. It was revealed that passengers will be able to travel up to 200 km for just Rs. 1,800, making the service both cost-effective and eco-friendly.

Memon set a target for the first batch of EV taxis to be operational by February, emphasizing the importance of completing the necessary infrastructure, including charging stations, on time.

He and Shah highlighted that the introduction of EV taxis would revolutionize the province’s transportation, offering a sustainable and budget-friendly option.

Memon also pointed out that this initiative would create jobs for the youth, promote environmental conservation, and attract investment. Shah added that the government plans to establish a comprehensive EV ecosystem, including flexible financing options for unemployed youth to access EV taxis through easy installment plans.
