Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Outperforms iPhone 16 Pro Max in GPU Benchmark Tests

The recently launched Samsung Galaxy S25 series, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, is making headlines with impressive benchmark scores. Although Samsung boasted about its gaming capabilities during the launch event, it withheld specific details. Now, early benchmark tests are shedding light on just how powerful the Galaxy S25 Ultra is.

Benchmark Results S25 Ultra vs. iPhone 16 Pro Max

One of the most telling comparisons comes from the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light benchmark, a standard test for assessing GPU performance under rasterization workloads. According to results shared by @Techinfosocials on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S25 Ultra scored 2,617 points in Benchmark, outpacing the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 1,922 points by a significant 36% margin.

Frame rate performance further highlights the gap. The S25 Ultra achieved an average of 19.39 FPS, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max trailed at 14.2 FPS.

Samsung’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy

The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy appears to be a key differentiator, even outperforming other smartphones using the standard version of the same chipset. Samsung has leveraged this custom-tuned chip to extract maximum performance, making the Galaxy S25 Ultra a standout device for mobile gaming.

Additionally, Samsung’s improved cooling system likely plays a significant role. With enhanced vapor chambers and thermal materials, the S25 Ultra may sustain peak performance for longer durations, reducing throttling during demanding tasks.

While these GPU benchmarks paint an impressive picture of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it’s important to remember that they only measure GPU performance. CPU capabilities and overall system performance remain untested in these early evaluations. Apple’s A18 Pro chip, known for its efficiency and computational power, may still hold advantages in areas like CPU performance or real-world multitasking.

Keep in mind that benchmark results and gaming performance are two different things, the latter of which is yet to be proven by the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Meanwhile, the A18 Pro and even its predecessor have proven to run AAA games locally on iPhones.
