Pakistan’s faltering World Test Championship (WTC) campaign came to a stuttering end as the West Indies defeated them in their last assignment of the current cycle. Their 120-run loss to the visitors means Pakistan finishes last among all teams in the current WTC table.

Shan Masood’s side had a shot at earning a trip to the WTC Final at Lord’s when the fixtures were first announced, with favorable games scheduled at home. Their campaign began with a promise against Sri Lanka, but detrimental defeats to Australia and Bangladesh derailed their bid for glory.
A comeback series win against England showed signs of life, but South Africa snuffed out any hopes of reaching the promised land, while the West Indies delivered the knockout blow to leave them ninth on the WTC table.
Pakistan’s batting and bowling units failed to fire consistently throughout the cycle. While there were occasional individual heroics, the team lacked collective consistency. Additionally, their inability to close out games and capitalize on key moments allowed opposition teams to dominate crucial matches.
Their reliance on flat tracks at home also contributed to their downfall, although their fortunes briefly improved when Aqib Javed took over.
For Pakistan, finishing last in the WTC cycle calls for a period of reflection and restructuring. With a wealth of talent still in their ranks, the team must address their shortcomings and focus on building a side capable of competing at the highest level. Improving discipline and maintaining consistent performances will be key to climbing the rankings in the next cycle
