PTA Urges International Travelers to Pay FBR Taxes for Mobile Registration

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Thursday reminded international travelers bringing mobile devices into Pakistan to fulfill their tax obligations as required by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for device registration under the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS).

In a statement, PTA said to facilitate international visitors, it provides a temporary registration option for short-term stays. However, travelers intending to stay beyond 120 days or seeking continuous mobile network access must formally register their devices and pay the relevant taxes mandated by FBR.

“International Travelers are strongly urged to complete device registration through DIRBS and settle FBR tax obligations promptly to avoid service disruptions,” the statement said.

PTA emphasized that these taxes are solely imposed and collected by FBR. Compliance with these tax requirements ensures uninterrupted access to local mobile networks and adherence to national regulations.

PTA remains dedicated to fostering a transparent and efficient telecommunications environment while supporting regulatory compliance, it added.

  • Thanks to Imran Khan for this stupid rule, that exists no where else in the world, that I know of.

This government could have abolished it but choose not to.

All the same but in name.

  • the funniest line was: PTA remains dedicated to fostering a transparent and efficient telecommunications environment while supporting regulatory compliance. applause deserved. 🤣

  • Oh bhai, tax fbr kee hai to mamai yai kyun bunai wai hain? They endlessly keep saying they have nothing to do with despite it being called “pta tax”.

  • Ask them to charge logical taxes then, I have a 4 year old mobile which was launched at 85k taxes then were 88k and after 4 years taxes are still 88k while mobile can be bought for 40k Kon Pagal tax daiga aise

  • Why should anyone pay additional taxes. It’s the govt’s responsibility to stop smuggling of the handsets. Instead of carrying out their obligations, they tax the general public. Ridiculous! No where in the world would these types of “laws” be acceptable.

  • The amount of taxes pta is asking for is insane. No telecommunications authority in the world asks for such a tax, only pta.
