The Punjab Education Department has introduced new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety of students and create a conducive learning environment in all public schools.
The Chief Executive Officers of the District Education Authorities (DEAs) have been instructed to strictly implement these SOPs. According to the new guidelines, smoking by teachers, students, and staff within school premises is strictly prohibited, and violations result in departmental action. Additionally, all unused rooms, storerooms, and stairways in government schools must remain locked.
Schools are also required to enforce a strict ban on detaining students after school hours. Headteachers must appoint a focal person responsible for ensuring compliance and submitting reports on this matter.
Furthermore, classrooms, hallways, and staircases must be kept clean and organized at all times. Washrooms should be thoroughly maintained with a constant supply of essentials such as water, towels, and soap. Sports fields must also be kept tidy, ensuring they are free of wild plants and overgrown grass.
