Rohit Sharma Downplays Hype Around India-Pakistan Clash in Champions Trophy

Pakistan’s upcoming Champions Trophy clash against India is sure to command global attention, although the Indian skipper and his team appear unfazed. As the cricketing world builds anticipation for the high-stakes India-Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has made it clear that his team will treat it as just another game.

Speaking at an awards ceremony, Rohit dismissed the idea of putting extra emphasis on the February 23 showdown against Pakistan, stating that India’s focus remains on playing quality cricket throughout the tournament.

“We will do what is expected from any cricket team on that day,” Rohit said, emphasizing that India won’t be making special preparations for the match. “We are not giving this particular game any extra attention. Our approach is simple—play good cricket and focus on what we do best,” he added.

The India-Pakistan rivalry is among the most intense in cricket, drawing millions of viewers worldwide. Their historic rivalry has weakened in recent years due to global tensions between the two nations, but their seldom-occurring matches still manage to attract packed stadiums, regardless of where they are held.

Their last ICC Champions Trophy encounter in 2017 ended in a dominant Pakistan victory in the final at The Oval, securing Pakistan’s first-ever title in the competition. Their upcoming clash is expected to fetch a pretty penny for the ICC once again.

While Rohit’s comments suggest a calm, measured approach, fans and cricket pundits know that when India and Pakistan step onto the field, it’s never just another game. All questions will be answered when the two giants of cricket come face-to-face on February 23rd.
