Pakistan Railways has announced a 5% fare increase for passenger express trains, which will take effect on February 5.
The fare hike comes in response to rising fuel costs and will apply to all classes of train tickets. The increase will also extend to saloon services and outsourced trains.
This decision follows the federal government’s recent adjustment of fuel prices for the next two weeks.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised, with petrol increasing by Rs 1 per liter to reach Rs 257.13 per liter, while high-speed diesel saw a Rs 7 per liter hike, bringing its new price to Rs 267.95 per liter.
Notably, this marks the third consecutive fuel price increase, following similar hikes on January 1 and January 16.
In separate news, Pakistan Railways recently announced a revised refund policy for tickets purchased at point-of-sale (POS) counters and online through the RABTA app.
As per the official notification, passengers who bought tickets at POS counters can receive a 90% refund if they cancel 48 hours before departure.
Cancellations made between 24 and 48 hours before departure will be eligible for an 80% refund, while those made within 24 hours will receive 70% of the ticket price.
