Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium is set to host a grand inauguration ceremony on February 7, 2025, following extensive renovations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lined up a star-studded evening featuring performances by Aima Baig, Ali Zafar, and Arif Lohar, ensuring a vibrant spectacle for cricket fans.
The event will be graced by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who will officially inaugurate the revamped stadium ahead of the competition. This is not the trio’s first foray into a partnership with the PCB. All three have previously worked on PSL’s official anthems, which have proved to be a hit with the public. A state-of-the-art light-show and a breath-taking fireworks display is also on the itinerary for the evening’s activities.
The artistic spectacle planned by the PCB is an effort to ensure more fan engagement ahead of the pivotal tournament.
Originally built in 1959, Gaddafi Stadium has undergone multiple renovations over the years. The latest upgrades aim to modernize facilities, enhance the spectator experience, and prepare the venue for hosting major international matches—not only for the Champions Trophy but also for future events. With its rich history of staging memorable encounters, the Lahore venue remains a crucial part of Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
The ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to commence on February 19, 2025, will feature matches in both Pakistan and the UAE. Gaddafi Stadium is expected to play a pivotal role in the tournament, hosting several key fixtures.
The February 7 inauguration will not only showcase the newly refurbished Gaddafi stadium but also serve as a celebration of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. With dazzling performances, enthusiastic crowds, and a renewed stadium ready for action, the stage is set for an exhilarating cricketing season ahead.
