Aqib Javed Calls Bumrah’s Possible Champions Trophy Absence India’s Concern

Pakistan’s interim head coach, Aqib Javed, has downplayed the threat posed by Jasprit Bumrah to Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite Bumrah’s reputation as one of the world’s top fast bowlers, Javed raised concerns about the Indian pacer’s fitness ahead of the high-stakes tournament.

Speaking to reporters during his team’s training session in Lahore, Javed emphasized that Pakistan’s strategy would not revolve around countering Bumrah alone. “India should be more concerned about Bumrah’s fitness,” Javed stated confidently. “Having a bowler like Bumrah is an advantage, but it’s not as if we’ll plan everything around him,” he added.

Bumrah, who has been sidelined since early 2025 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to persistent back spasms, remains a doubt for India’s Champions Trophy fixtures despite being named in the squad. Despite cricketing greats linking Bumrah’s availability to India’s chances of winning their third Champions Trophy, Aqib Javed does not share the same sentiment.

The Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19, will feature the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. As excitement builds, Javed stressed the importance of not underestimating any team, given the competitiveness of the top eight sides.

Despite doubts about Bumrah’s fitness, Aqib Javed remains confident in Pakistan’s team-centric strategy. He highlighted the squad’s collective strength and readiness to adapt to each opponent’s challenges. As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 countdown begins, all eyes will be on Dubai, where old rivalries and fresh ambitions will collide. Regardless of Bumrah’s impact, Aqib Javed’s focus remains firmly on his own team’s game plan and collective effort.
