After spending over three months in Pakistan, US woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson, has finally departed for New York City, according to police reports.
The 33-year-old US woman arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2023, intending to marry 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, whom she had met online. However, their plans fell apart when Memon allegedly abandoned her due to family opposition.
Following his disappearance, she remained outside his apartment for nearly 30 hours before seeking refuge at a Chhipa shelter. Eventually, she was admitted to the psychiatric ward at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
South Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Robinson left JPMC for the airport, where she boarded a flight to Dubai at 10:40 p.m. before heading to the United States. Her ticket was arranged by the US government.
The case gained widespread attention after Jafriya Disaster Management Cell Welfare Organisation founder Zaffar Abbas shared her ordeal on social media. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori later stepped in, assisting with the extension of her expired visa and coordinating her return. Despite these efforts, Robinson initially refused to cooperate.
Authorities in Karachi had considered deporting her and had sought guidance from the federal government through the Sindh government. Eventually, arrangements were made for her voluntary departure.
